In the Beggining
Shawn Crahan: My uncle was murdered in a gang initiation. They shot him through the windshield of his car, and when he got out to run they shot him in the back. I had a lot of sadness, rage, and confusion from that, so I decided to start a band that would give me a pulpit to speak to many people and make them have to face this thing inside me.

Paul Gray: The basic idea of slipknot started in ‘92 with shawn, and all we really knew from the start was that we wanted to do someting with extra percussion.

Clown: Paul’s writing tickled my brain. So I’d come over to his mom’s house and play drums. But even though I started on drums, I always knewsthey were going to call Joey. It was part of the plan. I was molding this sickness. I was like the sun on the water boiling the shit.

Joey Jordison: The first time I met Shawn was when he was in his old band Heads on the Wall. My band Modifidious -which included Josh [Brainard] and [Slipknot sampler] Craig [Jones] on guitars- played on a bill with them. I watched Shawn play, and the dude was kicking over his high-hat stand, and he’s pissed as shit. I was like, I wanna be in a band with that guy. I don’t know why, but I do.
